First Book-Brooklyn, the Brooklyn chapter of the national nonprofit organization that provides new books to children in need across the country, is announcing its very first bookstore event in the community it serves. Greenlight Bookstore in Fort Greene pulls out all the stops for a big story time event on Saturday, June 2 at 11 a.m., with New York Times bestselling author/illustrator Peter Brown. Greenlight will donate 20% of the day’s sales of children’s books and toys to First Book-Brooklyn.
Peter Brown is the highly acclaimed author of Children Make Terrible Pets and its sequel You Will Be My Friend, as well as The Curious Garden, inspired by the story of the creation of the High Line.
The community is invited to join Greenlight and First Book-Brooklyn for a reading and drawing by Peter, a raffle with great prizes, including baked goods from local cookbook author Melissa Clark, prizes from local vendor Green Grape, a gift certificate from Greenlight, and a tote bag with books from Peter’s publisher Little Brown Books for Young Readers at this very special Story Time!
In March of this year, First Book has been awarded a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s premier charity evaluator that rates nonprofit organizations to provide donors of all levels with reliable data about the impact, efficiency, and fiscal health of the organizations. The four-star rating is Charity Navigator’s highest possible evaluation.
