The end of summer is fast approaching so best to make the most of it. Below are some family friendly options for NYC families this weekend – August 17 & 18, 2019.

HONEY WEEKEND AT WAVE HILL

This signature weekend offers a buzz-worthy range of activities, from candle-making and honey-extraction demonstrations to a “Be a Bee” Family Art Project that has become a classic. Meet local beekeepers in The Shop, where you can enjoy a selection of local, artisanal honeys.

Admission to the grounds this weekend is $12 adults. Free to Wave Hill Members and children under six.

Saturday August 17
SUMMER STREETS

It’s the last weekend of Summer Streets, which is an annual celebration of New York City’s most valuable public space – our streets. Summer Streets provides space for healthy recreation and encourages New Yorkers to use more sustainable forms of transportation. In 2018, nearly 300,000 people took advantage of the open streets.

FARMHOUSE FAMILY DAY: COMPOST ADVENTURE

Get your hands dirty with a fun composting workshop at Wyckoff’s August Family Day! Join Farmer Zach at our garden compost piles, where you’ll learn how to make and sift your own compost. Explore our farm and Worm Bin, and enjoy fun worm-themed arts and crafts projects for all ages. You can also tour our historic home, play with outdoor toys and games, and do a scavenger hunt.

SPRINKLER DAY AT ASPHALT GREEN

It’s hot, hot, hot! Don’t let the soaring summer temperatures discourage you from enjoying the outdoors. Cool off by splashing around in Asphalt Green’s sprinklers! Sprinkler Day is back with two summer dates. That means double the wet and wild fun. Kick off your flip-flops and enjoy free outdoor play in our high-powered sprinklers. A day on the green wouldn’t be complete without a treat. All attendees will receive a free frozen dessert on their way out. You just can’t beat summers at Asphalt Green!

TAVERN TERRACE OUTDOOR CONCERT

Staten Island’s biggest backyard party returns for another fun-filled season at Historic Richmond Town’s Main Village site. The Tavern Terrace will be open for the season beginning May 31. The Tavern Terrace Beer Garden features a selection of hand-crafted ales and lagers from Staten Island’s famed Flagship Brewery!

The Terrace will be open Friday and Saturday evenings all summer long, featuring live music each Saturday! The Tavern Terrace at Historic Richmond Town is fun for the entire family!

Bring a blanket and have a picnic! Enjoy classic outdoor games and cool down at Egger’s Ice Cream Parlor with a sweet treat!

DOMINO KIDS! FEATURING SONGS FOR SEEDS

Interactive class encourages children, newborn to 6 years old, to sing, dance and play along with a live, three-piece band. Kids rock out with children’s instruments, as well as real drums, guitars, keyboards and instruments from around the world. Our teacher/musicians take students on a musical journey each week through a series of seven engaging activities.
