SUNNYSIDE GARDENS PARK 2019 QUIP: QUEENS UNITED INTERNATIONAL PARTY

Sunnyside Gardens Park is again hosting its annual QUIP event on Saturday, September 14 from 3:00-9:00pm. Join us for a celebration of the cultural diversity of Queens with International music and food. Kids and adults alike can dance or lay back and enjoy musical acts featuring Somer Suarez (Uruguayan), Brooklyn Raga Massive (Indian/Bhangra), Rose Moraes & Roots of Brazil (Forro/Samba), The Lowers (American & British Rock & Roll) and The Brown Rice Family (Jamaican Reggae/ska). Assorted food trucks will serve up various cuisines, kids can get creative at the craft station.

FISHING CLINICS AT BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK

Join the Conservancy and local partners for brand new Rod & Reel fishing clinics! These fishing clinics are designed to introduce the public to the ecology and life of the East River, in order to foster conservation and environmental stewardship of our waterways. Working with expert anglers and a marine biologist, participants will learn the basics of line fishing, while contributing to an ecological survey — helping to monitor the health of our river.

RAPTOR FEST

Experience the thrill of viewing New York’s premier predators live and up close! Join NYC Parks at the annual Raptor Fest, hosted by the Urban Park Rangers.

This event showcases many birds of prey, also known as raptors, that are found throughout New York City and beyond, including eagles, falcons, owls, and hawks!

The family-friendly event is free to the public and will include education/activity tables stations along with live birds of prey performing aerial feats.

9TH ANNUAL NYC HONEY FESTIVAL

Back again for the 9th year, come join a fun group of beekeepers and honeybee enthusiasts. There will be honey tastings and demonstrations as well as many different honeys to buy. Family fun for all ages.

FAMILY WORKSHOPS: JAPANESE FOUR-HOLE BOOKBINDING (WATOJI)

How are books made? There are countless ways to bind a book and in this workshop participants will learn the Japanese Four Hole method. Families will get to construct and decorate a beautifully bound project that can be used for any sketching, writing, or creating purposes!

Programs developed specifically for kids ages 6-10 and accompanying adults. Siblings are welcome to attend but must have a ticket. Space is limited: advance registration encouraged.

As the season transforms into the colorful scheme of fall, Cumbe: Center for African and Diaspora Dance re-opens Cumbe Kidz classes with the introduction of a brand new culture and movement experiences and Pay What You Wish Weekend! On September 14 & 15, families can come check out music, movement and culture classes for their children 2-4 years old. This weekend gives parents and kids the opportunity to discover new classes and find the right technique that works for them! Register online or in person! Each class is pay what you wish during this weekend. So take advantage and try them all!
